The Competencies page is where you review competencies for your series and grade and select them, as appropriate, for your assessment. A competency is an observable, measurable pattern of knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and other characteristics which an individual needs to perform work roles or occupational functions successfully. The competencies you select on this page should be tied to your job analysis.
To access this page, select a Request Number in Pending Recruitment status from the Dashboard, select the Vacancy Number link in the Vacancy Created section, select the Assessment Package tab, select Assessment Plan, select the Assessment Name link, an assessment specific tab will display, and select Competencies. The number to the right indicates how many competencies have been added. You can sort any of the columns in this table in ascending or descending order.
The following elements are displayed:

Add Competencies. This drop-down list allows you to choose competencies to be added. The options are:
- New Item. This option allows you add a new competency to the questionnaire.
- Add from Library. This option allows you to add a competency from the Competency Library. For instructions, see: Adding an assessment competency from the library.
- Gray box. A check-mark in this box indicates the competency will be deleted.
- Competency ID. This column displays the identification number of the competency.
- Competency Title. This column displays the name of the competency. Access a competency by selecting on the link.
- Definition. This column displays a definition for each competency.
- Type. This column displays the type of competency, general, miscellaneous, supervisory or technical.
- Source. This column displays the origin of each competency. For additional information, see: Manage Competency Network.
- Delete Selected. This button will display when a check is placed in the Gray box next to a competency. Note: If you delete a competency that was pulled from the library, it is only removed from that assessment. If you created a competency specific to this assessment and delete it, that deletion will be permanent.
