Setting a character limit for a narrative response

1. Select an announcement.
2. Select Announcement Questionnaire.
3. Place your mouse over the Add to Eligibilities or Add to Preferences to display the drop-down list.
   
4. Select New Item.
5. Enter the Item Header as it will appear to the applicant in the online application.
6. Enter the Item Stem as it will appear to the applicant in the online application.
7. Select Narrative Textbox or Short Answer Textbox from the Response Type drop-down list.
8. Toggle on Required, if applicable.
9. Select Enforce a character limit, or Enforce a word limit, if applicable.

10. Enter a number up to 20,000 in the Response Character Limit field, or enter a number up to 5,000 in the Response Word Limit field.
    

    

11. Select Add & Close.
